Angels and iPods (Advent 1)

Here we go again the first Advent cartoon of 2011.  An alternative caption would be "While Shepards watched their FLACs by night" but I think fewer people would have got it.

ps. Advent itself started last Sunday.  Tomorrow we will investigate Advent calendars.

Black Friday

Black Friday what an excellent name for a holiday!  It's the day after Thanksgiving which is an American holiday like Christmas but without the consumerism and presents, whereas Black Friday is like Christmas without the food and family - 100% capitalism.

Still if you refresh your browser every 5 seconds you may be lucky and get 0.004% off a manual food whisk or anything else the likes of Amazon had left over in it's mammoth warehouses.

The more observant may notice I have reused my three kings from Advent 2: Three Wise Men vs Wise Women a classic and still the most popular post on the site.  Maybe they will make another appearance during the 2011 advent season!!

Government Pawn Brokers

If this report from the Telegraph is true then the deal to buy Northern Rock includes 250 million from the bank's own balance sheet i.e. money the bank owned before it was sold is being used to buy it.

The government would make terrible pawn brokers and indeed have a poor record at nationalisation.  If Northern Rock did operate with 'excess capital' then why did that excess capital not belong to the taxpayer instead of being used to reduce the price Virgin money paid?

Back to the old drawing board

Given how much the Eurozone crisis has been in the news I hope you recognise Merkel, Sarkozy and our own PM as well as the overall message.  However do you recognise the reference?

Here is a great example of how cartoons have influenced culture.  On March 1, 1941 the American cartoonist Peter Arno had a cartoon published in the New Yorker magazine with the caption "Well, back to the old drawing board."  You probably recognise the quote but did you realise it came from a cartoon.

Millenium Falcon Bathroom

For this week's CCGB compedition themed 'HAIR' I thought I'd use one of the Rapunzel cartoons I drew earlier in the year but decided inside to rework one of the ideas with Han and Chewbacca.

Did the Millenium Falcon have a bathroom it certainly didn't on the replica model that was the best Christmas present I had as a child.  Also could Han and Solo use the same facilities given their different heights and if Yoda or an Ewok came onboard would they need a potty instead?

No Green Bottles

Nobody knows the true origins of 'Ten Green Bottles Hanging On A Wall' but it is a song designed to go on for a long time and drive parents crazy during traffic jams.  So why does it have to stop at No Green Bottles.  This is my question for science
