If at first you don't succeed...

First cartoon of 2014 is for the caption "if at first you don't succeed..." which brings to mind the famous legend of Robert the Bruce's meeting with the spider often told in my school history lessons.

According to the legend Bruce having been defeated by the English (the bad guys) was hiding in a cave where he sat and watched a spider building a web.  Far from being a competent spider this spider was forever falling down and having to climb like Incy Winsy back up the web to try again.  This arachnid team talk then caused him to come out fighting in the second half and defeat the English at the battle of Bannockburn.

Unfortunately this legend seems to have come more from Sir Walter Scott in his "Tales of a Grandfather" book than from the 14th century.   It is thought Sir Walter Scott may have adapted a story about Sir James Douglas another knight in the Scottish Wars of Independence.  Or it may come from a much older story told about King David or other ancient figures.

Whatever the source if he played Candy Crush then this would be good advice (unless you want to go down the micro payments route).
